In addition to the International Visitor Leadership Program, the International Visitors Council was selected to host the Community Connections Program currently with the U. S. Agency for International Development administered by World Learning. Since 1998, over 206 participants from Eurasian countries of the former Soviet Union have interned in businesses in Greater Kansas City to learn the ins-and-outs of the free-market economy. These visitors have stayed overnight in homes to develop strong links with our community and to reinforce the dynamics of the program. KCIVC has hosted 146 professionals from Ukraine, 40 professionals from Russia, and 50 professionals from Azerbaijan under this program and the prior Community Connections Program under the U.S. Department of State.

 | Ten aspiring leaders from the Khmelnytskyy Oblast in Ukraine were selected by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to spend three weeks in Kansas City learning about volunteerism: recruitment, motivation and utilization. They all utilize volunteers in their sectors - economic development in rural areas, youth character building, providing services to the elderly and disabled, caring for orphans and more. At the end of the program, the delegates went home to Ukraine with ideas, plans and dreams for developing a culture of volunteerism in their region to bring social and economic change to Ukraine. During their three-week stay in Kansas City, they stayed with wonderful home stay hosts where they learned first-hand about American culture and made American friends.
