Citizen Diplomacy Award presented to Layne Christensen Company
Thirty-three men were trapped below almost half a mile of notoriously hard rock when the Chilean copper-gold mine collapsed in August 2010. After 69 days in the damp and dark pit, all of the men were rescued in a big part due to the resources, technology, skill and grit of Mission Woods based Layne Christensen Company. The Citizen Diplomacy Award will be presented to Layne Christensen Company at the Concert for Global Peace for their humanitarian role in freeing the miners trapped in the collapsed mine.
The Citizen Diplomacy Award is given in honor of the late John Dods III who served as president of the International Visitors Council of Greater Kansas City board of directors for many years. John was dedicated to better understanding between citizens of the United States and other nations and exemplified citizen diplomacy through personal contacts with our international visitors.
